Guilford Co. Prison Farm Gives Away Thousands Of Muscadines

GIBSONVILLE, N.C. — The Guilford County Prison Farm is gave away thousands of muscadine grapes for free on Sunday.

Guilford County Sheriff Barnes took over the farm in 1997 as a way to provide work programs and classes for inmates. Now, according to Eddie Bridges, founder and director of the North Carolina Wildlife Association, the farm’s future is up in the air due to recent legislation. Bridges says he’d rather see all those muscadines be given away rather than go bad.

Bridges says he’d like to see the farm land be used as an educational tool to teach the community about rural areas.
